CHICO — Its 2,400 pipes were made of bullets shot in the Bidwell Park gun range. Its keys were made of dried shin bones from university cows. Its music rack and pedalboard were made of wood from the fallen Hooker Oak tree, an emblem of Chico. The Centennial Organ at Chico State has long been a treasure in this city, said Ryan Enright, an organist based in Sacramento who frequents Chico just so he can get his hands on it. The organ’s home has been Harlen Adams Theatre for 30 years, but that might soon change. The Chico State Department of Music and Theatre is auctioning it off due to safety concerns.
